The Grounds Committee is a multipronged resource for the turfgrass management industry. Whether you are scratching the surface of what a career in turf may entail, looking to get started, or searching for guidance during your career, we are here for all levels.
We offer support from three directions.
The Grounds Committee Online Program
A guiding resource that follows the evolving order of a career within turf.
The TGC Blog
An open platform to help digest current events, emerging techniques, and technologies.
Personal Advising
Direct communication with you about your conflicts, ideas, project plans, etc.
In this post, we will briefly describe each, and see how we may be able to energize you or your staff, and be here to support continued development.
The Grounds Committee Online Program is a comprehensive resource, developed to target specific periods of your career. Individuals can identify the ideal place to get started based on personal preference, opting only for what really applies to you. We offer an employer option to host our program at your facility, for the benefit of your grounds staff and management team.
The courses do not require active participation from you, and are built as presentations and useful downloadable files, templates, and spreadsheets. These downloads have been used in real-world situations, and can be relied on to sharpen skills, helping you exemplify your mastery of a wide array of turfgrass facility operations and systems.
The program challenges you to apply this learned information to your real life, turning your workplace into your own customizable classroom to make sure you are getting out what you are putting in to each workday. Stop wasting your time droning along!
We don't offer certificates of completion, we help you get promoted instead. For newly hired supervisors, we help you thrive in your new role.
The courses combine to deliver 5.75 hours of presentations through 23 videos, with an accompanying 33 downloads that will elevate your awareness and performance in both the field and in the office. There are no tests or quizzes, just impactful information.
Our online resources begin with a Free Introductory Course (https://www.thegroundscommittee.com/intro) where those interested in a potential turf career can become familiar with the process of becoming a leader in the industry, and the varied career-path options within our world.
Our free materials expand to include our TGC & IGFH International Course (https://www.thegroundscommittee.com/additionaltgc). We introduce you to our friends at International Greenkeepers for Hire, who work to educate turf mangers, while encouraging their successful international travel. We also share our own story of moving from the USA to Australia, identifying ways to prepare, excel in the moment, and return successfully.
The following courses can be joined by following the link here: https://www.thegroundscommittee.com/jointgc
Those who are just starting in their careers will find the most benefit within our BLUE COURSE. We show you the varying levels of employment in the turf industry, how to approach your first job interviews and resume submissions, and how to navigate your options in the wide world of turf. We also offer a comprehensive internship plan download, to be used to stay focused on your development in your early years on the job. We encourage you to embrace, and help you identify, the varied opportunities available to you.
Progressing to the mid-level professionals who have a few seasons under their belt in the fields and fairways, we offer our WHITE COURSE. Here, we use the example of being hired at "The Grounds Committee Country Club", and work with you investigate and understand the inner workings of the processes and personnel operating around you. From the business's administration, accountants, and board members, to the chemical, irrigation and equipment technicians. Expand your awareness, and get comfortable being in-the-know, when it comes to each corner of your facility. Learn how interactions with key staff cultivate organizational culture and successful operations.
When you feel ready to jump from being somebody's assistant to having a seat in the captain's chair, use our GREEN COURSE. This is our time to dial-up your finer skillset when it comes to active leadership and management. Our fleet of downloads for this section empowers you to hit the ground running on firm ground with an understanding of human resources and managing employee performance, impactful examples of communications, and an extremely useful interactive budgeting spreadsheet. Use our templates to help stand up for yourself, clarify issues, and bring forth new solutions. Use our budget downloads to know your budget's story in real-time, identify inconsistencies, and generate recommendations for future budget years.
Employers can purchase full access to host this program at their workplace, with customization to deploy specific sections to orient new hires, motivate young managers, or firm up the abilities of those they wish to mentor or challenge to realize their own potential. We can help you explain norms and expectations within the industry.

The TGC Blog will host TGC team members and guest articles/interviews. We will always maintain an open ear for feedback and new topics to write about. We want to help you get into the rhythm of identifying opportunities at your workplace to better yourself while you are on the job anyway. Those investigating whether a career in this field is for you, can read along and send us your questions or topics as well. Employers are encouraged to let their assistants know about this resource, so they can become more aware of the expectations of professionals in our industry, and the experiences that can help elevate their abilities. Employers can also access a younger professional's point of view with our guests.

Personal Advising is a way to add to your decision making team.
